The series includes correspondence, memoranudm, minutes of meetings, working papers and studies, pamphlets and brochures related to organizations and movements with which Henderson was affiliated or a member.

From the study of these files, a researcher can trace back to the 1970s the efforts to have a secodn Atlanta airport built and the efforts to launch Harvard University's first African-American Studies department. Also intriguing are the files of "The Old Penn School" (St. Helana, SC), reportedly the first school built for the purpose of educating African-Americans in the South. Arraned and filed under the National Urban League are papers, petitions and analyses of the Geier v. Dunn case, heard in Tennessee state court. The court proceedings were to restrain the defendant from operating higher education institutions in Tennessee on a racially dual and discriminating basis.
