Scope and contents

From the Series:

This series consists of materials related to Grace Towns Hamilton's career as a state representative in the Georgia General Assembly from 1965 to 1984. It includes correspondence from various colleagues as well as notable figures such as former Governor George Busbee, Jimmy Carter, Louis Martin Jr., and former senator Herman Talmadge, invitations to the inaugurations of Mayor Maynard Jackson and Governor George Busbee and correspondence from organizations, such as Atlanta Public Schools. The series contains campaign materials such as flyers for re-elections, and campaign disclosure act and forms. In addition, the series is comprised of materials from the Fulton County House Delegation, a delegation within the Georgia House of Representatives. These materials are made up of reports, house and senate briefs, meetings, bulletins, and copies of bills and roll calls. It is made up of materials from the Georgia Legislative Black Caucus, such as meetings, reports, and resolutions. A large portion of the series consists of legislative materials, such as copies of bills, materials on the Fair Employment Practices Act, notes, reports, proposals, rules and regulations of the State of Georgia, and sections of Georgia laws. A major portion of the series contains materials related to committees Grace Towns Hamilton was a member of during her time in the Georgia General Assembly and sometimes prior. These materials include the Appropriations committee budget requests, the Citizens’ Advisory Committee on Environmental Quality, a national committee, meetings and reports, the Committee for the Humanities, and the Minimum Foundation Program of Education Study Committee works and reports. Additionally, the series contains research materials obtained from other state legislatures and Hamilton’s notes.
