Scope and contents

From the Series:

This series consist of articles, books, speeches, and research materials written by Dr. E. A. Jones. Some of these writings were written in English as well as French. Dr. Jones was an admirer of the Negritude movement, and he wrote many articles about the works of some of the founders of Negritude such as Aime Cesaire, Leopold Sedar Senghor and Leon Damas. Dr. Jones wrote a book about the Negritude movement titled Voices of Negritude. The work that Dr. Jones is probably most known for is the book about his Alma Mater, A Candle In the Dark: A History of Morehouse College. There are multiple handwritten and typed manuscript drafts of this significant work including edits, promotional cards and correspondence. The Printed and Published sub-series contains many articles that Dr. Jones wrote, which were reprinted in Phylon as well as other publications. Also included in this series are Dr. Jones’ research notes on some of the topics and people that he wrote about such as Paul Bourget, Leon Damas, and some of the West African countries.
