Scope and contents
This series contains materials related to Dr. Gloster’s career as president, president emeritus, and the founder of Morehouse School of Medicine. Correspondences, printed and published materials, and teaching materials are also included in this series. The President’s Papers sub-series consists of administrative files, office of the president records, board of trustees records, and Atlanta University Center records. Of particular note, there are files documenting the board of trustee’s lock-in when students from Morehouse College, Spelman College, Atlanta University, Clark College, and Interdenominational Theological Center took members of the board of trustees hostage during a board meeting.
The President Emeritus sub-series documents Dr. Gloster’s work on various boards and committees that he served on such as the Past Presidents Council, Atlanta University Center (AUC), American Council of Education, and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Center for Nonviolent Social Change, Inc. Dr. Gloster also served as a consultant to many colleges and universities, institutions, and individuals on various projects. Morehouse School of Medicine sub-series documents various activities surrounding the establishment of the medical school. The series also contains teaching materials, congratulatory letters on his inauguration as president, various printed and published materials related to the college.
