Voter registration, 1944
Scope and contents
These papers offer a small glimpse into George Towns’ personal life. Of interest is the Voter Registration file which contains clippings and a manuscript detailing his one-man campaign to register African American Atlantans to vote in 1944. The E.H. Webster Club, a women’s club based at Atlanta University, held a reception honoring Towns and herein are telegrams of congratulations and the program. His financial records include a checking account register and stock investment papers. His baccalaureate diploma from Atlanta University (1894) is housed in Oversize Degrees, Certificates, and Awards.
