Historical note

Established during the 1940s, the Georgia Teachers and Education Association (GTEA) embarked on a noble mission to uphold democratic values, enhance the teaching profession, safeguard the well-being of children, and instill a passion for lifelong learning among the Negro youth in Georgia. The organization maintained close communication with school officials and collaborated in every possible way to ensure the optimal functioning of Negro schools, particularly amidst the transformative changes brought about by the "New Deal."
