Scope and Contents
The correspondence spans the period from 1966-1980 and is arranged alphabetically by the name of the correspondent, organization, or publisher. Most of the correspondence is written to Walter Rodney. There are a few drafts of letters written by Rodney and an occasional carbon copy of a letter he sent. Most of the folders contain only one or two letters. The detailed listing by name was provided to give an overview of the broad array of persons that wrote to Dr. Rodney. The correspondence is from students, colleagues, publishers and editors, community and political activists, members of cultural and political organizations, community and labor groups, and educational associations. These letters include discussion on various political matters and sometimes requests Dr. Rodney’s advice. There are numerous letters from editors requesting Dr. Rodney write or submit an article or book review. There may be an occasional letter that requests Dr. Rodney to speak, however most of the requests are in Series F: Speaking Invitations/Engagements. The Correspondence series reveals Dr. Rodney’s international involvement and appeal and include correspondents from Africa, the Caribbean, Europe, North and South America.

Photocopying is not permitted of Walter Rodney's unpublished writing, his drafts of works that have been published, nor his lectures and lecture notes.

Audio recordings are for research and study and no copying is permitted.
Materials with personal identification information such as social security, passport, and financial account numbers, as well as student evaluations and reference letters for students and colleagues have been isolated in Series M: Restricted Materials, and are not available for review.
