Scope and Contents
This series provides insight into Dr. Walter Rodney’s career as an academic. He received offers and sometimes sought positions at a number of colleges and universities. The documents in this series include employment papers, academic department memoranda, syllabi, exams and other teaching materials. There is a small amount of materials related to Dr. Rodney teaching at the University of the West Indies, University of Guyana, as well visiting professorships at McMaster University (Ontario Canada), Cornell University, University of Hamburg (Germany) and State University of New York, Binghamton. The bulk of the series documents Dr. Rodney’s tenure at The University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Of interest are the copies of twenty lectures he prepared for the course, “Historians and Revolutions.” Also, there are lecture notes from his courses, “Black People in the Americas” and "West African History in the 19th Century."
Also, included in this series is documentation about some of the students Walter Rodney taught. Grades, references letters, and evaluations that specifically identify students have been restricted to protect their privacy. There are photocopies of some of the student papers, however, names and other identifying information have been removed so that the student is not identifiable.
