He followed the careers of Black athletes, artists, and musicians and collected newspaper clippings and articles related to notable figures such as Mattiwilda Dobbs, Benjamin Mays, Arthur Ashe and others. Wheeler also collected materials related to school desegregation, banking, and Black achievements.
