Scope and contents
The Vice Mayoral series is a small series that provides a glimpse into Jackson’s introduction into political office, including his brief campaign for the U.S. Senate. Arranged alphabetically, this series documents his political career from 1968-1973. This series contains records pertaining to the various committees Jackson served on while Vice Mayor such as: the Police Committee; Zoning Committee; Aviation Committee; Water Committee; and Democratic National Committee. Correspondence from constituents, political leaders, and other members of the community regarding speaking requests, committee meetings, campaign contributions, as well as thank you letters are also contained in this series. Of note are letters from constituents congratulating him on the race for the U.S. Senate, as well as materials documenting his role as President of the Board of Alderman.
