Churches and Church Groups, 1965-1976

The work in which C. Eric Lincoln engaged put him in contact with thousands of individuals in the United States and around the world. Out of these contacts came letters which relfect Lincoln's work and reputation as a scholar, writer, teacher, consultant and speaker. The letters convey information regarding Dr. Linoln's research into his early writings on the Black Muslims and later on the Black Church in America. Included are hundreds of letters to churches, scholars, publishers and editors. A widely acclaimed lecturer, Dr. Linoln maintained extensive records of his personal appearances and speeches he gave around the world in the areas of civil rights, race relations, religion, the Black Church and the university. Lincoln was also a valued consultant and throughout the collection are letters from students, colleagues, foundations and corporations seeking personal recommendations, advise on projects and comments on their scholarly activities. Notable correspondents include James Cone, Alex Haley, John Silber and Senator Terry Sanford.
