"The Dexter Echo", Volume 6, number 1, 1960 September 7
Scope and Contents of the Series
The series contains annual reports, newsletters, programs, and a few other documents about the Dexter Avenue Baptist Church in Montgomery, Alabama. The annual reports, both in completed and draft form, detail the church’s yearly activities, membership, finances, and plans for the future. They also include observations by Martin Luther King, Jr. about the past year’s endeavors, recommendations, and thanks for the congregation’s understanding of the demands made by his leadership position in the civil rights movement. The "Dexter Echo" newsletters, 1957-1964, provide accounts of church activities, articles on religious matters, announcements about members and groups, and related news items. Sunday services and an organ recital are described in two separate programs. The series also includes a financial statement for 1954-1955, a form letter sent to dinner guests, and a list of repairs and furniture for the parsonage.
