Minutes of the Pre-Thanksgiving Program of the Fellowship Service, 1963 November 28
Scope and Contents of the Series
The series consists of records about the Ebenezer Baptist Church’s committees, membership, events, housing projects, history, and related operations. Documents describe the organization and functions of the committees of the Women’s Council as well as youth work, public relations, and worship. There are lists of the church’s trustees, family units, and young people whose parents are not members. A partial draft of a letter to members, fragment from an annual report, and blank pledge cards demonstrate the fundraising efforts for the church. The series also has programs, pamphlets, address lists, drafts for publication, an invitation, and related papers for events held at the church including the Diamond Jubilee, church celebration of King’s Nobel Peace Prize, Men’s Day Observance, Choir concert, 5th Anniversary of the Courtesy Guild, Christmas performance, and a family musical performance. Correspondence, photocopies of architectural drawings by Muldawer & Patterson, affidavits, and official forms detail the multi-family housing project proposed by the church to the Federal Housing Administration in 1967. In addition, there is a 1961 letter about the Butler Street Urban Redevelopment project for multi-families from Housing Authority of Atlanta. Besides these documents, there is a chronological sketch of the church from 1886 to 1960, American Baptist Convention report form, the minutes about the Thanksgiving Fellowship Service planned by area churches, a 1967 telegram of support sent to King while in the Birmingham City Jail, and a few financial records.
