Scope and Contents of the Series

From the Series:

The series contains legal documents involving Martin Luther King, Jr. and members of his family. Three contracts with King are included, two for speeches at the University of Minnesota and Cheltenham Township Adult School and another to record phonograph records with Southeastern Recording. There is a UK Labour Permit issued in 1961 for his interview on the Face to Face television program. An order of notice from the probate court in Westport, Connecticut informs King that he was left a contingent bequest by Mary E. Calhoun. Also included is an affidavit where Coretta Scott King appoints Jesse B. Blayton, C.P.A. to represent her in all matters concerning income tax returns for years 1957-1961. The series also contains a power of attorney authorizing Chauncey Eskridge to represent Martin Luther King, Sr. and Alberta King in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and its accompanying papers.
