Scope and Contents
The Printed and published material series primarily consists of the SCLC Magazine and SCLC West Magazine, official publications from the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, as well as newspaper clippings. The bulk of the SCLC publications is primarily from the 1970s-1990s. The newspaper clippings cover the Lowerys’ activism and work and other topics of interest to them including African Americans in politics and culture, the Civil Rights movement, policing, and other contemporary activists. Other major topics include notable events such as the Vietnam War and the Jonestown Massacre. The geographic areas primarily covered are Atlanta, Georgia and Alabama. These newspaper clippings cover the 1940s to the 2010s with a majority chronicling the 1970s to the 1990s.
