Dr. Clarence Bacote participated in a variety of civic and political activities for more than five decades. These activities included voter registration, leadership in the Fulton County Democratic Party, participation in several commissions at the local and federal level, along with detailed political analysis of voter turnout in Atlanta. As chairman of the All-Citizens Registration Committee, he helped to initiate an intensive voter registration campaign among African American voters. Included in this series are documents such as committee minutes, membership lists, and highly detailed directives which illustrate the grass-roots efforts of the early Civil Rights Movement. Among the materials associated with Dr. Bacote's membership in the Democratic Party are some memos, minutes, and political memorabilia. Documents from the Georgia branches of the United States Civil Rights Commission and the American Civil Liberties Union-both of which Dr. Bacote served as an advisor-are included along with committee reports, minutes, and memorandum from the Atlanta Charter Commission. Finally, Dr. Bacote's attention to voting patterns in Atlanta are represented by detailed analysis of the black vote in local and national elections.
