Series Description

The Artwork and Professional Work series is the largest in collection and consists of Dawud Anyabwile’s personal artwork and sketchbooks and professional work. This series includes issues of Anyabwile's most notable work, Brotherman: Dictator of Discipline Comic and the corresponding storyboards. Also included are records of Big City Comics which document the dispute between Big City Comics and Toy ‘R US regarding the distribution of Brotherman Comics in stores. This section also contains ephemera related to Big City Entertainment and Brotherman Comics. This series also contains Anyabwile’s character art for Turner Studio productions and popular Klatsky Csupo, Inc productions—The Rugrats and The Wild Thornberrys. Rounding out this series is Dawud Anyabwile’s personal sketches including childhood artwork, miscellaneous artwork, sketchbooks, and a portfolio. These items provide insight into Anyabwile’s artistry, creative process, his work in portraiture and the influence of caricature in his work.
