Scope and contents

From the Series:

The Correspondence Series is arranged chronologically by year, spanning from the 1960s to the 2000s. This series comprises some personal correspondence, but its primary focus is on professional correspondence related to Judge Ruffin's work as an attorney and judge. It includes thank-you letters to Ruffin for his service on various committees and as a lecturer in criminal law. Additionally, there are letters inviting Ruffin to speak at various engagements.

The series also contains congratulatory letters celebrating significant events in Ruffin's life, such as his retirement from the Georgia Court of Appeals, passing the bar exam, and the dedication of his portrait unveiling at the Burke County Courthouse. Notably, the collection includes letters from the community, requesting that Ruffin drop his school desegregation lawsuit of Richmond County schools.
