This small series offers insights into a few of the civic, social, and professional organizations that Judge Ruffin was affiliated with during his lifetime. He actively held offices in several of these organizations. Notably, he served as the president and vice president of the Georgia Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, as well as the President of the Georgia Conference of Black Lawyers, Inc. Furthermore, he assumed various roles within the Voter Education Project (VEP), including vice president, secretary, and treasurer. Moreover, Judge Ruffin was a member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Sigma Pi Phi Fraternity, the Gate City Bar Association, and the Augusta Morehouse Club. Additionally, Judge Ruffin held the distinction of being the first African-American member of the Augusta Bar Association.
