Woods v. State of Alabama , appeal re: bus boycott, 1959
Scope and Contents
These few documents relate to legal cases Anderson featured in his writings. He especially liked to report on court cases that exposed the hypocrisies and injustices of segregation. The two affidavits are eyewitness accounts of voter registration discrimination in Brownville, Tennessee. The Alexander file is a well-argued plea from a Black student's parents to the Charlotte (North Carolina) School Board for an equal education opportunity for their son. School desegregation is the subject of the Nelson case which highlights the Birmingham (Alabama) court's procrastination on the issue. Alabama is also the setting for the "Coleman v. Barton" and "Wood v. State", cases of jury service discrimination and a bus boycott, respectively.
