The sheet music is a valuable asset to any musicologist or music lover. It includes several of the classic pieces such as "If I Had a Hammer," "We Shall Overcome," "When the Saints Go Marching In," (translated into several languages) and the Negro National Anthem "Lift Every Voice and Sing." In conjunction with the rest of the collection there is a significant amount of music composed and written by the greats such as W.C. Handy, Langston Hughes, Countee Cullen, Pete Seeger and William Grant Still. A musical by Langston Hughes and David Martin, Simply Heavenly, was collected with individual copies of the scores which have also been included in this series.
