Airwaves, volume 2, number 6, 1979
Scope and contents
Valuable periodicals dealing with African Americans and their experiences in the U.S. were donated by Harold Jackman and various members of the Harold Jackman Memorial Committee. Many of these periodicals are particularly pertinent to the collection and are rare editions. For example, Fire and Palms (the African-American edition by Countee Cullen) are two periodicals included in the collection that show interesting insight into the Harlem Renaissance and its literary and artistic movements. There are classics in this series like The Crisis (both during and after W.E.B. Dubois' involvement) as well as The Jubilee, dating from 1881. There are substantial amounts of newsletters that cover the functions of several artistic groups like "The Handy News" and "The Negro Actors Guild of America Inc. Newsletter." The Harold Jackman Memorial Committee continued to donate periodicals into the 1980's which tended to be more popular such as Ebony, Jet and American Film.
