Ray, Charles A., Director, The News Bureau, 1953
Scope and contents
The records of John Curist Dixon as Executive Director of the Southern Education Foundation (1946-1964) contain correspondence to a variety of educators, business leaders, and government agency executives from the South. Most of the letters relate to the central focus of the SEF at the time, which was supervision of rural schools and projects directly related to such supervision. The series also contains a substantial amount of administrative records. Such records include surveys profiling Atlanta University and Allen and Benedict Colleges, correspondence with state education leaders in the South, training programs for educators in Southern states, and files for states requesting grants-in-aid from the Southern Education Foundation. Also included are records relating to SEF's efforts to acquire funds for building a facility for their headquarters in Atlanta.
