Scope and contents
The correspondence of Pauline Young is arranged alphabetically by the name of the correspondent. Among the correspondents are Alice Childress, W. E. B. DuBois, Charles S. Johnson, Georgia Douglas Johnson, Alice Dunbar Nelson, Benjamin Quarles, Eslanda Robeson, George S. Schuyler, and John R. Tunis. There are letters with family members and friends, however the bulk of the correspondence is related to Ms. Young’s speaking engagements, publishing efforts, and civil rights and civic activities. Of interest are the many letters of protest to local and national government officials, organizations and the media. Additional protest letters are in Series E, Letters to the Editor, and Series J, Scrapbooks.
