This series contains materials from Mays' tenure on the Atlanta Public School Board of Education. Included in this series are budget materials, correspondence, minutes of Board of Education meetings, and reports. There are also files from several national and regional school board organizations and files related to desegregation lawsuits from acrosss the nation, including Calhoun v. Cook, a lawsuit about the desegregation of Atlanta Public Schools. Of note are files from Atlanta-area schools that detail their library holdings in 1972 to show that they have enough "materials by and about Negroes."
