- The Moles, Inc. (Organization)
This collection documents The Moles, Inc., an African American women's social organization with chapters nationwide. The Moles was founded in October 1928, nationally organized in 1949, and incorporated in 1950 in the State of Virginia. Although organized for fun, pleasure, and fellowship, the Moles realized that there are those in their respective communities who need a helping hand. With this in mind, chapters across the country participate in service projects. They have purchased Life Memberships in the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, contributed to health and physical needs of the less fortunate, given scholarships, assisted the aged, the blind, and the underprivileged. They have contributed to a school building fund, to a campaign for boys and girls, and to national organizations to encourage equality for African Americans. The Moles have voiced their opinions to the heads of government on Civil Rights and given recognition to distinguished persons for outstanding services.
