Scope and contents

The Morehouse College Alumni Profile Vertical Files contain profiles of Morehouse College alumni. The bulk of the collection consists of correspondence, newspaper clippings, and photographs documenting the careers and accomplishments of individual alumni after graduation. These items were originally collected and maintained by the Morehouse College Office of Alumni Engagement. The office continues to collect and maintain additional profiles. Notable... alumni in the collection include Martin Luther King Jr. ('48), Julian Bond ('71), Samuel Nabrit ('25), and Walter E. Massey ('58).

Historical note

Morehouse College, located in Atlanta, Georgia, is a private historically Black men's liberal arts college founded in 1867. The college emphasizes religious instruction in the Baptist tradition and has played a significant role in the civil rights movement. Morehouse is the largest men's liberal arts college in the United States and has produced many notable alumni. The college has a strong academic record, producing Fulbright, Rhodes, and Marshall... Scholars, and many trailblazers in various fields.
