Scope and contents

The Graduate Assistantship Program, Inc. (GAP) started in the 1970s. It’s a fellowship program through NCOBPS that was established by a separate foundation. In its start, the program offered graduate assistantships to prospective Black political science graduate students. Recipients received $1,000 each to attend universities of their choice. The program now runs as a travel grant program to support graduate/undergraduate student attendance and participation in the NCOBPS Annual Meetings. The materials included in the series are correspondence, such as scholarship inquiries from students, applications from individuals, as well as blank applications, announcements, GAP board meetings, reports, and administrative files such as the articles of incorporation. The majority of the materials in the series focus on the years in which students received funding for graduate school. Formats of the materials include agendas, memos, reports, correspondence, and minutes.
