Scope and contents
This series includes various materials related to the personal life of Grace Towns Hamilton. It is made up of some biographical materials, such as her vita/resume. It includes personal correspondence with notable individuals, such as Jimmy Carter, W. E. B. DuBois, and Louis E. Martin, Jr. as well as others. The series contains memorabilia such as Hamilton's Honorary Doctor of Laws degrees from Emory University and Warren Wilson College, her Towns-Hamilton Award from Atlanta University, and the Eulogy of Martin Luther King, Jr. given by Benjamin E. Mays. Additionally, it consists of materials related to Hamilton’s father, George A. Towns, and her mother, Nellie McNair Towns. These materials feature, the play written by George A. Towns,The Sharecropper, as well as funeral programs for both.
